The Manassas Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) will start its 8th year on Wednesday, September 8th and invites any senior citizen to come to the semi-annual Sip and Socialize at 1:00 pm at Manassas St. Thomas United Methodist Church, 8899 Sudley Road. If you are a senior and want to keep your mind active by learning while meeting new people and having fun, LLI is for you. The mission of LLI is to provide quality, affordable educational opportunities in a supportive environment for adults 50 years of age or older.
The Northern Virginia Community College at Manassas has hosted LLI since 2003; however day time classes and on-going activities are held at a variety of venues in the Manassas, Gainesville and Haymarket areas. The dues are $100 per year and that allows members to take as many classes in the humanities, history, lifestyles, health/fitness and science as they would like. There are no tests to take or papers to write. The fall 2010 schedule of classes will be presented at the Sip and Socialize.
On September 29, 2010 at 10:00 am LLI will host the first of three free forums, open to the public at Colgan Hall on the NOVA Manassas campus. The Smithsonian Institution will present “Life in America.” The second free public forum will be held on October 13th at 10:00 am with a presentation by BG Clara Adams Ender, US Army Retired speaking on “Volunteerism and the Maturing Society.” On November 17th the public forum will feature Justice LeRoy F. Millette, Jr. talking about his 17 years on the bench. The address of the Manassas NOVA campus is 6901 Sudley Road. Please call 571-606-0247 regarding questions about the forums.
In addition to the mental stimulation the current 230 members receive in LLI they also say they enjoy the social aspects, making new friends and the day trips. For more information please email us at llimanassas@gmail.com or call 571-606-0247.
