Prince William Chamber Announces New Director of Public Policy

Published Date: November 2, 2011

Prince William, Virginia – The Prince William Chamber of Commerce announced the hire of its first Director of Public Policy, Nancy Hiteshue. Following an extensive nation-wide search, Hiteshue was chosen for her accomplishments as a professional in government relations with a background in project management, legislation review and association-to-government communications at the state, federal and local levels. She comes to the Chamber with a proven track record of integrating public policy and grassroots efforts into all aspects of an organization.

“It is with great excitement that we announce the hiring of Nancy Hiteshue as the Prince William Chamber’s first Director of Public Policy,” said Chamber President & CEO Rob Clapper. “With her proven track record and extensive experience here in Northern Virginia, Nancy stood out as somebody who can achieve results for the businesses of Prince William.”

Hiteshue most recently served as the Public Affairs Director of the Washington Business Roundtable in Seattle, Washington. Past positions include Federal Regulatory Affairs Manager at the American Institute of Architects in Washington, DC and Advocacy Manager for the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association in Chantilly. Nancy has also served on the Washington Transportation Planning Advisory Committee.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the College of William and Mary.

Hiteshue looks forward to serving the needs of the Prince William business community through the Chamber. Her previous experience with legislators in both Richmond and Prince William mean that she can “hit the ground running,” something she is looking forward to. “Already the Government Affairs Committee has made impressive strides in working with legislators to improve conditions for Prince William area businesses. My aim is to continue and expand the good work that they have started,” said Hiteshue.

Says Clapper, “With the hiring of our first Director of Public Policy, we look forward to enhancing our ability to advocate on behalf of all our members, particularly the needs of small business. The Chamber remains committed to nurturing a strong economic climate here in Prince William and ensuring that the communities we serve stand out in the local, regional and national arenas.”  More than 85 percent of the Chamber membership is made up of small and midsized businesses.

One of Hiteshue’s tasks will be advocating for policies that support continued economic growth for the Prince William region, which has been named as the number one locality for job growth in Virginia and the 9th most prosperous locality in the nation, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Prince William also made the top ten national list of the fastest over-the-year job growth, placing third among the 322 largest counties in the country.
