On Monday, July 6th at 7:00 p.m., join us at the Potomac Library for a discussion about Lexile measures. Learn how to use them to help your child become a lifelong reader! Students in Virginia schools are assessed using the Lexile Framework in order to match these students to materials they can comprehend. You may have seen this measure referred to on your child's report card or summer reading list. If you are uncertain what it means for your child, this program will provide you with answers.
The Lexile Framework includes a Lexile measure and the Lexile scale. A Lexile measure represents both the difficulty of a text, such as a book or an article, and an individual's reading ability. Knowing the Lexile measures of a book and of your child can help predict how well the book will match your child's reading ability. The Lexile measures can help you determine whether the text may be too easy, too difficult or just right. This program is timed to give you the opportunity to understand the measure so you will be prepared to help your child select the right books for summer reading as well as for the school year.
Registration for this free program for parents begins June 22. While registration is not required, and drop-ins are welcome, it is recommended that you register if possible.
