World renowned Irish tenor, Mark Forrest captivated the audience at the Battlefield High School as the official rite of Advent season began. Advent comes from the Latin word advenio, meaning "to come") and is a Holy season among Catholics around the world. The Advent season celebrates the birth of baby Jesus 2,000 years ago.
According to Geraldine Erickson, Program Director of tonight's event included traditional Irish Christmas songs, English Christmas carols, and participation of children in a Christmas choir. In addition, Holy Trinity Catholic Church provided visitors and guests complimentary dinner specially prepared for this occasion. An estimated crowd of 700 people attended this live concert.
Upon the completion of the first Christmas song by Mark Forrest, the concert was abruptly interrupted by a power failure. For the next half hour, the crowds were entertained by Father Peffley classic juggling act which included juggling with machetes, bowling bowls, and assortment of juggling props in anticipation of the power coming back on. The children in the audience participated in the Christmas caroling led by Mark Forrest.
In the end, Mark Forrest along with Soprano, Jennifer Timberlake; Tenor, John Downes; and Maureen Codelska, piano accompanist performed the classic "Holy Night" as the evening prematurely closed to an end.
The organizers of the program assured the crowd that the concert will be re-scheduled for the beginning of year and suggested ticket holders to hang on to their tickets. Meanwhile, NOVEC was busily restoring power to the residents of Haymarket.
