"I am very disappointed by the budget Governor Kaine introduced earlier today. The Governor's budget does not properly address the shortfalls being experienced by the Commonwealth in the current fiscal year, and it includes unwise spending commitments and unreasonable economic assumptions in the upcoming biennium. This budget is not in keeping with the Virginia tradition of fiscal responsibility.

Big TVs Mean Bigger Electric Bills


NORTHERN VIRGINIA-Most big-screen and digital televisions are boosting home energy consumption today, and the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative wants consumers to be aware. Most plasma, rear-projection, and liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions use more electricity than conventional analog cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions, says NOVEC. Adding DVD and VCR players, gaming consoles, satellite receivers, and digital recorders to home entertainment centers add even more to the electric load.

Mac Attack Fun Run

Bristow, VA ~ November 10, 207. Today marks the 1st Annual Mac Attack 5k and 1 mile Fun Run and Walk for Mac Groseclose, an eleven (11) year old and a student of Marstellar Middle School who was diagnosed with Medullablastoma, a form of brain cancer. This type of cancer was first diagnosed by Bailey and Cushing in 1925, the term "medulloblastoma" described a series of tumors found in the cerebella of children. About 1.5-2 cases per 100,000 population, with 350 new cases are reported in the United States each year.

Holy Trinity Church Casino Night


Casino Night

Holy Trinity Catholic Church hosted their first "Casino Night" at Heritage Hunt on Saturday, November 3rd. Father Peffley described the event as a way for parishioners to meet each other and have fun, as well as raise money for the building of the church. Shawn Raven, photographer and graphic designer took portraits of parishioners with Father Peffley in his captain's hat, since people could win a cruise for two. 1st Corn Hole Invitational

1st Annual Cornhole Invitational

Nokesville, VA ~ November 10, 2007. BristowEnews.com met with Devin Vaughn and Greg Taylor, event coordinator for the 1st Annual Cornhole Invitation fundraising event for the Girls' basketball team for the Brentsville High-School. The event took take place at the Fire Station No. 5 in Nokesville, VA and has attracted about 20-30 participants. The history of the game traces it roots back to California and the event spread throughout the Mid-West. Eventually the game achieved notoriety through Bengal's quarterback Carson Palmer who was an avid player of the game.
