On a clear crisp clear autumn day, children and parents from Victory elementary school participated in the 1st annual Fun Run Race. This event was the 1st annual fund raising event for Victory Elementary school. The event was coordinated by Jeannie and Rachelle Labella, both parent and student of the school.
The race attracted over one hundred participants from all ages. The main focus of this event was to promote physical activity and participation among school age children. Prior to the race children participated in the" Running club", an after school physical fitness program which was ran by parents and volunteers. The program lasted for six weeks wherein children conditioned themselves physically and mentally for this special fitness event. The race event was divided into groups: 8 and under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. Medals were awarded to the finishers.
For the 5k mile race, the race started on the school parking lot. Runners followed the marked lanes from Tygart Lake Drive left on Sudley Manor Drive South and around the Victory Lakes Park which meandered through the trail and looped back to the school parking lot.
Corporate sponsors such as Harris-Teeter, the Patriot Bank, The Running Store, and the Battlefield Towing were among the many sponsors who donated their resources in making this a successful event. Overall, the children and the adults had a good time participating in this 1st annual race.
