Linton Hall School Open House, November 11, 2007

Sister Patricia Ann and Principal Liz Poole greeted area residents and potential students to the Linton Hall School Open House on Sunday, November 11th between 1 and 3 pm. Linton Hall School is currently a co-educational Catholic School which enrolls children in grades Pre-K thru 8th grade. See: http://www.lintonhall.edu.

Sister Patricia Ann teaches 6th grade English, Literature, Religion and 7th grade Religion. She also is the art instructor for the grades K thru 8th. Sister Patricia believes that "Linton Hall School is known for its sense of community; the blessing of being able to call every child by name; knowing their families and knowing each child."

Principal Poole was originally from England and taught swimming every summer at Linton Hall School, where she met her husband, who taught at the soccer camps. They both received their undergraduate degrees in England and then Mrs. Poole came to the United States, where she received her Masters in Elementary School Counseling. Prior to becoming Principal at Linton Hall, she worked for eight years as an Assistant Principal at St. John's, in Warrenton, VA.

Linton Hall School originally was a military boarding school for boys at the turn of the century. The estate was left to the Order of Saint Benedict by Sarah Elliott Graham Linton, daughter of John Tyler Linton and Cecelia Ann Graham. In Prince William County William Linton and Moses Linton took out land grants in the eighteenth century.

Mary Jane Zimmerman gave a tour of the Science Lab that was modernized three years ago through the generosity of parents and grandparents. Many pieces of equipment that you would normally find in a high school are now standard here including glassware, microscopes, as well as the projection system. Science has a great presence at Linton Hall School in their Conservation Program, and in their four wind station where they are connected to News Channel 7 as a weather observation point.
