23rd Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow

23rd Annual American Indian Inter-Tribal Cultural Powwow.

In observance of the Native American month this November, BristowEnews.com covered the 23rd Annual American Indian Inter-Tribal Cultural Organization (AIITC) Pow-wow held this year at the Benedictine Monastery in Bristow, Virginia. The event which was typically held in the month of June or July was the 1st year held in the early days of autumn.

Holy Trinity Church in Gainesville, Virginia, held tours for their parishioners in September and October to allow them to see the construction of the building prior to its completion. Groups were taken in limited numbers on tours guided by Mr. George Osilka, who is on the Holy Trinity Building Committee and is in charge of the Construction Committee, which over sees the construction phase of the Cruciform-shaped building.

Braemar Halloween Parade 2007


Braemar Halloween Trick or Treat Parade

Braemar held a "Spooktackular Halloween Trick or Treat Parade" sponsored by the Braemar Community Association. Children in Halloween costumes showed off their outfits including rock stars, giraffes, Elmo, Hannah Montanna, police, butterflies in addition to your traditional costume. The annual event attracted local Braemar residents and their children.

Catherine Falco began her career with Pampered Chef Products in May 2005 after working as a Civil Engineer at the World Trade Center and then meeting her husband, who began a career with the United States Navy. When they married and decided to have children she realized that she would not be able to work part time as a Civil Engineer and decided to find another avenue for herself which included her love of cooking that dates back to her childhood, when she remembers cooking with both of her maternal and paternal Italian grandparents.

A Family Masquerade Ball event was held last weekend at the Gainesville United Methodist Church. This special fundraising event was for Brittany Leap, a twelve year old from Haymarket, who has a debilitating disease called Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation (NBIA). This rare disease is often related to neurological disorder and was first described by Hallervorden and Spatz in 1922 as a form of brain degeneration characterized by excessive iron deposits the brain.

Red Ribbon Week "Proud to be Drug Free"

Red Ribbon week is a week-long event that takes place at school or at home. During this week you learn how about how to avoid doing drugs and why. This week was started by a man named Enrique (Kiki) S. Camarena. Kiki joined the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) on June 28, 1974. One of Kiki's jobs at the DEA was to work on finding drug traffickers (people who transport drugs from place to place). Unfortunately, Kiki died when he was tracking the trail of the country's biggest marijuana traffickers.

NOVEC Expands Fiber Optics Network


NOVEC EXPANDS FIBER OPTICS NETWORK

NORTHERN VIRGINIA-The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative announced today that it will have 25 of its 52 substations connected by fiber optic technology by the end of 2007. NOVEC says it plans to connect all of its substations with high-capacity bandwidth that relies on NOVEC's expanding fiber optic cable network.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2007


Gainesville United Methodist Church hosted the Ecumenical Word and Worship Service for the Bristow Community on Sunday, October 7th at 7:00 pm. The theme of this year's worship service was: "Open our ears and loosen our tongues," Mark 7:31-37. Bristow Shopping Center Grand Opening

October 13, 2007, Bristow VA ~ Bristow Shopping Center was officially opened today. The grand opening entertainment was provided by Rappaport Companies, a retail developer and management specializing in shopping center management, leasing, and development. Sabra Flaherty, DJ provided the music and entertainment. Parents and children participated in a treasure hunt wherein merchants in pre-designated areas stamped the treasure map and treasure hunters were eligible for door prizes.

Bristow, VA ~ The official commemoration of the Battle of Bristoe was officially inaugurated on October 12, 2007 and followed by activities in the weekend. The commemoration attracted about 300-400 visitors from far and near. Exhibits were on hand to showcase the public what a soldier might have endured during the battle of Bristoe in October 14, 1863.

Markham, VA. Stribling Orchards have been growing apples for the past 200 years. The farm started in the 1700 as a settler's cabin. The orchard farm land has witnessed many Civil War battles. The buildings have been occupied by officers by the Union and Confederate soldiers. In 1811, Dr. Robert Stribling began renting this property as a "Mountain View" and eventually purchased 93 acres.

On October 6th, which was a bright and warm day , the Youth For Tomorrow held their annual Country Fair, that attracted about 5500 hundred people. Young and old were delighted by Piscataway Indians dancing and story telling; Tai Yim's Traditional Chinese Lion Dancing; musical entertainment, free rides for children; a hay wagon pulled by Clydesdales; and an assortment of exhibits and entertainment.

This evening's event was held at a local hotel outside Manassas city. The mood was light and cheerful as each of the candidates prepared their speeches and press photo opportunities. An estimated crowd of 200-250 people attended this debate including supporters from both sides.

NOVEC, The 16th Annual Cooperative Meeting.

Haymarket, Virginia ~ The 16th Annual Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) meeting was held last week at the Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Virginia. An estimated 548 voting members in addition to the 9,274 proxy members attended this annual event. According to the by-laws for a quorum to be fully recognized, the membership attendance should be at least 2% of the total membership. According to NOVEC there are 119,934 registered members throughout the Prince William County.
