Capital City Carnival 2007

Bull Run Park, Virginia ~ An estimated crowd of 7500 people attended the beer festival at Bull Run Park. Beer aficionados were entertained and charmed with the assortment and varieties of beer. From mom and pop breweries to large bottling companies were on the fair grounds to display the latest products. The crowd had the opportunity to taste test and try-out samples from the many beer products available on the market.

The winner of this year's Virginia Beer Cup festival winner - Eric Plowman, Proprietor of Cally's Restaurant and Brewing Company. The winning sample is the Smokin' Scottish Ale, a ruby colored, full bodied beer that has been brewed with a small portion of smoked malt for added complexity. We sampled the beer and found it to be mild with a subtle a malty smooth flavor. The restaurant is located in Harrisburg, Virginia off I-81 corridor. Their website is http://callysbrewing.com/index.html.

We also sampled Wood Chuck Draft Cider Beer. Believe it or not, it tasted like apple cider but with an aromatic presence of caramel, spice, and a dash of tartness. The taste was refreshing and the coolness soothing especially in the last hot days in September. Their web site is http://www.woodchuck.com/Extras/

BristowEnews.com taste tested Samuel Adams Octoberfest, a seasonable brewed beer and the 2006 winner of the Great American Festival held last year in Colorado. The beer has a very smooth, crisp, and malty flavor. Samuel Adams largest presence is in the state of California, Boston, and Northern Virginia. Samuel Adams web site is http://www.samueladams.com

A Ferris wheel was available for everyone to enjoy, a concert stage where musicians gathered and performed, and local artisans and crafters to show case their products. "Across -the-Way Productions" is the official sponsor of this event. Bristowenews.com wishes to thank the sponsor for their support and their time in allowing us to review the beer festival.
