“Where All the Pieces Come Together” was this year’s theme of the Prince William County Fair. Many local residents in the community came to enjoy the last days of summer before the heading out to school. The fair which officially opened in 1949 celebrated its’ 59th year. Many local residents considered this event as a mainstay community event. The parking lot was full during the opening day and droves of cars can been seen getting to the County fairground. An estimated 85,000 people attended this year’s event. There is a strong emphasize on the Agricultural theme which we suspect will continue to do so in the coming years to come.

Virginia is the national model for the “Badges for Baseball” program. Two years ago representatives of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation met with Department of Justice officials to discuss ways to bring programs run by the Foundation to at-risk youth. After that meeting, the “Badges for Baseball” program was created. Thanks to Virginia’s proven track-record of innovation with public safety programs, and its success with prevention and intervention initiatives, the Foundation identified the Commonwealth as the best state in which to inaugurate “Badges for Baseball” as a statewide initiative. Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell was asked to take the lead and coordinate the law enforcement partners. The Office of the Attorney General worked with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and rolled out the program in 2007.

The Score for the Poor took place this year from August 11th to 15th, and the camp has steadily grown from its humble beginnings as a way for Emily and her family to help the Little Sisters of the Poor and her thought that “everyone can make a difference,” and now includes neighbors and friends who have heard about the camp through word of mouth. Emily organizes the camp from tie-dyeing the t-shirts to creating and hand decorating specific instructions for the various counselors to creating fun games like “Duck Duck Goose” for children aged 3 to easy soccer skill building for older children that work on speed, ball control and kicking and of course each camp day ends with a game of kick ball and popsicles. According to Emily the main idea is “to have fun as well as build confidence and self-esteem through lots of praise” and the camp of course includes lots of stickers!

New documents just obtained by NRLC, and linked below; prove that Senator Obama has for the past four years blatantly misrepresented his actions on the Illinois Born-Alive Infants Protection bill.
Summary and comment by NRLC spokesman Douglas Johnson: "Newly obtained documents prove that in 2003, Barack Obama, as chairman of an Illinois state Senate committee, voted down a bill to protect live-born survivors of abortion -- even after the panel had amended the bill to contain verbatim language, copied from a federal bill passed by Congress without objection in 2002, explicitly foreclosing any impact on abortion. Obama's legislative actions in 2003 -- denying effective protection even to babies born alive during abortions -- were contrary to the position taken on the same language by even the most liberal members of Congress. The bill Obama killed was virtually identical to the federal bill that even NARAL ultimately did not oppose."

Nokesville, VA – Author Richard Morris spoke at the Nokesville Farmers’ Market on July 26th and he described how five years ago his morbidly obese condition, weighing over 400 pounds caused him to suffer from sleep apnea, hyper tension, and diabetes to name the more serious conditions. At the time Richard lived in New York City, where everyone walks and it was torture for him to walk or stand anywhere. Morris began to realize that food was the problem and he decided to fast one day. He made it through breakfast and lunch but wound up eating some baked chicken and drinking water for dinner and then woke up feeling pretty good, so he decided to do that again. The next day he felt great and realized that this diet had no artificial ingredients such as colors, flavors, glutamates, cyclamates, and citrates, so he called his wife and said they were going to back to eating the way their grandparents ate.
