Nokesville Farmers’ Market Hosts Author Richard Morris

 Author Richard Morris

Nokesville, VA – Author Richard Morris spoke at the Nokesville Farmers’ Market on July 26th and he described how five years ago his morbidly obese condition, weighing over 400 pounds caused him to suffer from sleep apnea, hyper tension, and diabetes to name the more serious conditions.  At the time Richard lived in New York City, where everyone walks and it was torture for him to walk or stand anywhere.  Morris began to realize that food was the problem and he decided to fast one day.  He made it through breakfast and lunch but wound up eating some baked chicken and drinking water for dinner and then woke up feeling pretty good, so he decided to do that again.  The next day he felt great and realized that this diet had no artificial ingredients such as colors, flavors, glutamates, cyclamates, and citrates, so he called his wife and said they were going to back to eating the way their grandparents ate.

Author Richard Morris before wholefoods lifestyle change

The Morris family went back to cooking their own food which was fresher, tastier and nutritionally better.  Cooking their own meals was a time commitment that they found was worth all the health benefits and food was reprioritized to be an important part of their lives.  Instead of eating bags of all kinds of chips etc. they ate whole foods such as quality meats, vegetables, grains and dairy products which satiated their appetites and eliminated their cravings for junk food.

Recalling the time before he and his wife made their lifestyle changes, Richard remembered his discouragement and waking up every day wondering if this was the day he was going to die.  He was told by people that the only options he had were surgery or fad diets.  Once he and his wife decided to eat whole foods and cook their own meals and began to lose weight, people began to notice differences in their health and eventually their weight.  Richard realized that they were proof that whole foods could help people correct their weight and health problems.  People told him to write a book about how he changed his lifestyle and reversed his weight problems, so eventually he wrote “A Life Unburdened, Getting Over Weight and Getting On With My Life.” His advice to people wanting to lose weight is to take the time to educate yourself about nutrition and make time to cook your own food from scratch, at least on the weekends, if you are busy.

Visit the Nokesville Farmers’ Market for a great source of fresh tasting local foods.  Visit them Saturday mornings from 8 am to 12 noon on Fitzwater Drive!
