From 10 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, July 29th, around 70 children and their parents gathered at James S. Long Park in Haymarket for a Holy Trinity Church Kids for Jesus (K4J) “Circus of the Stars” event to highlight the K4J Clubs starting up again this year in Gainesville at Holy Trinity. The virtue on display at this fun event was “balance”. Kids, ages 3-8, had fun making their own circus masks, balancing a peanut race, animal through a Hula Hoop Toss, Bucket and Sponge Tightrope race, Balloon animals, receiving face painting, and more. The highlight of the event was a two-man juggling show featuring pastor Father Peffley and parishioner / Catholic youth minister Rob Tessier!

While the children enjoyed their activities, moms took some time to learn about the once/month K4J clubs happening at Holy Trinity and registering. At Holy Trinity, monthly Pre-K4J clubs are offered for children ages 3-5 and K4J Friends clubs for children ages 5-8. The children come together in small clubs once a month to learn a virtue in a fun experiential way with their peers (through a lesson led by the club moms, K4J “get moving” activities, K4J craft, and K4J snack). The children leave with a “mission” to practice their virtue in a concrete way for the rest of the month. They also receive a monthly “mission pack” mailed to their home with activity book, saint of the month holy card, and table-top “you’ve got a mission” card. K4J characters like Spark (your conscience), Vice (the devil), and “Grace” help instill the lessons learned. Moms also find a way within the parish through a monthly K4J club to form new Christ-centered friendships within the parish themselves.
Kids 4 Jesus is a national Catholic, non-profit, educational organization focusing on the character formation of children incorporating parental involvement, entertaining mass media products and kids' club formation. K4J was started by a group of lay people inspired to use the spirituality of Regnum Christi in an effort to serve the Church and meet the needs of today's Catholic families.
