Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School will welcome nearly 200 freshman and sophomore students to the new $60 million dollar campus in Dumfries on August 25, 2008, for the opening of the first academic year.

You are invited to attend morning activities including the arrival of students beginning as early as 7am, and the welcome orientation. Guided tours of the campus can also be arranged.
“The dream of many in the community of opening a new Catholic high school in the southern region of the Diocese of Arlington is finally a reality! Starting today, generations of young people will pass through our halls and into the world, equipped with a strong academic foundation, solid moral compass, and powerful love of faith and neighbor,” said Sister Mary Jordan Hoover, Principal. Hoover continued: “To our first-ever students: this school has been built for you, and you will give it life. Congratulations to each of you!”

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School is the newest school in Prince William County, and the newest high school built by the Catholic Diocese of Arlington in more than 20 years. It is distinctive for its integrated and comprehensive bioethics curriculum - the first of its kind in the country.
The bioethics program enhances the core accredited college-prep curriculum, which includes rigorous study in the fields of Religion, English, Math, Science, History, World Language, Fine Arts, Business, Technology and Health/Physical Education.
The state-of-the-art facility includes wireless internet access, interactive whiteboards and projectors in each classroom, eight modern science labs, a collegiate-style library, professional stage and 500-seat theater, football, soccer/lacrosse and baseball fields, two gyms, weight and wrestling rooms, and more. Pope John Paul the Great will host more than 20 home games this fall. Student leaders will also begin clubs, committees, and extracurricular activities including a student newspaper and drama club.
Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School is a four – year secondary school dedicated to educating the total person through an academically challenging and spiritually enriching curriculum. Under the leadership of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, Pope John Paul the Great is located on 40 acres of land in Prince William County and was funded by the Rooted in Faith – Forward in Hope Capital Campaign of the Diocese of Arlington.
