Church of Holy Trinity Blessing and Dedication Ceremony, February 2, 2008
Church of the Holy Trinity, a Roman Catholic Parish celebrated their solemn blessing and dedication ceremony on Saturday, February 2nd, 2008. Bishop Paul Loverde of the Diocese of Arlington was the principal celebrant. Approximately 1,200 parishioners and guests attended this once in a life time event.

According to the Decree from the Sacred Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship, 1977: “The rite for the dedication of a church and an altar is rightly considered to be among the most solemn of liturgical services. A church is the place where the Christian community is gathered to hear the word of God, to offer intercession and praise to Him, and above all to celebrate the Holy Mysteries, and it is the place where the holy sacrament of the Eucharist is kept.[1]
The blessing and dedication ceremony included Introductory Rites; Liturgy of the Word; Prayer of Dedication and the Anointing; Liturgy of the Eucharist; Communion and Concluding Rites. The relics of five saints were placed within the church altar: Saint Louis Marie de Montfort, St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John the Evangelist, and Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity.

Reverend Francis J. Peffley has been the pastor of Holy Trinity Parish since it was established on June 27, 2001 and has seen it grow to over two thousand registered families. Holy Trinity’s future plans include the building of a school for grades preschool thru 8th grade, a parish center with offices, religious education classrooms and an audio/video/book library; and a rectory to house the parish priests.

Bishop Loverde thanked Father Peffley, and the parishioners of Holy Trinity for giving of their time, talent and treasure in order that the church could be built. Bishop Loverde also gave special recognition to Father Peffley’s parents, Bill and Mary Peffley who were able to come to the event despite Mrs. Peffley’s recent injury to her hip. The Peffley’s will soon celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Immediately following the three hour long ceremony parishioners enjoyed themselves and celebrated the church blessing with light refreshments. Although the church was blessed and dedicated, Holy Trinity will not be able to occupy the church for approximately another week until they have completed some work and Prince William County gives their final approval. Since it was Ground Hog Day, Father Peffley joked, “The Bishop saw his shadow today, so we have six more weeks of construction.”
