The PWC-GM Chamber of Commerce is accepting Scholoarship Applications


Manassas, VA—The Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for nine $1,000 scholarships for qualified seniors attending an accredited public or private secondary school in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park. Each high school Scholarship Committee or Counseling Department shall evaluate entries based on the scholarship criteria provided and nominate one student for each scholarship category and submit up to a maximum of four applications to the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce by noon on Friday, February 29, 2008. Each student is eligible to win one scholarship only. Scholarship application forms and information are available on the Greater Chamber’s website at http://www.pwcgmcc.org/news/news_chmbrscholarship.shtm.

 

 

Nine scholarships will be divided into four categories. Three Science/Technology scholarships will be awarded to students that are pursuing a four-year college degree in areas such as math, science and engineering. The Science/Technology scholarships are made possible through a grant by Micron Technology Virginia.

 

Three Leadership scholarships will be awarded to students who are pursuing a four-year college degree and can demonstrate characteristics and qualities associated with leadership. The Leadership scholarships are made possible through a grant by Lockheed Martin MS2 Undersea System.

 

Two Career/Technical scholarships will be awarded to students planning enrollment in an educational institution program of study leading to a degree or certification, including an associate degree or institute, industry or technical certification.

 

New this year, one Education scholarship will be awarded to a student intending to pursue a career in education by enrolling in an accredited community college or four-year college or university.

 

The remainder of the scholarships is funded through a grant by BAE Systems, contributions by members and by some of the proceeds from the Polar Bear Scramble Golf Outing scheduled to take place on Wed., March 12th at Evergreen Country Club.

 

Formal notification of the winners will be made to both the student and school by Friday, March 28th. Formal presentation of each of the scholarships will be made in coordination with the recipient and their respective school’s annual recognition event. Scholarship recipients will also be honored at the Greater Chamber’s Education Honor Roll Breakfast on Tuesday, April 22nd at Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club.
