Haymarket, Virginia ~ Mark Forrest, a renowned International Irish Tenor performed a live concert at the Battlefield High School on January 6, 2008 school auditorium. Mark Forrest harmonious voice has filled concert halls and cathedrals world wide. He has sung inspirational hymns for Pope Paul II and Mother Theresa. Likewise, Mark has entertained Charlton Heston and Maureen O’Hara.
An estimated crowd of 400 people attended this memorable event. Mark captivated the audience with his soothing voice as he entertained the crowd with traditional Irish ballads on a stage fittingly decorated with brightly holiday bows, a Christmas tree, and a nativity scene depicting the statue of baby Jesus, Joseph, and Mary. Mark sang traditional Irish music such as “Danny Boy” and “Coming Home.” His voice resonated throughout the entire auditorium in a clear and crisp manner as each word of the song brought emotions and fond memories of good tidings.

The Asaph Dance Ensemble complimented the evening performance with holiday ballet treat in the interpretation and perspective as the Christmas season came to an end. The group Asaph is named after the Biblical character Asaph, King David’s chief musician and the composer of a number of biblical psalms. Unlike classical ballet, the dance troupe performance impressed the audience and reminded the elegance, the beauty, and the style of Martha Graham, an early pioneer of modern dance art. The group has toured and performed in the former republic of the former Soviet Union, Europe, and the U.S.
Halfway through the program, Mark enchanted the crowd with his interpretation of Lee Greenwood’s Proud to be American song. The audience gave Mark Forrest a standing ovation as he concluded the song. Mark reminded the audience for what our Armed Forces do in service for our country and freedom.
The highlight of the event included an impromptu and unrehearsed music sang by children in the audience. Children of varying ages and sizes sang classic Christmas tunes such as Joy to the World, Silent Night, and O Come Ye all Faithful with music instructions from Mark Forrest and the Piano accompanist, Maureen Codelska. John Downes, a local resident and a gifted musician and vocalist performed with Mark Forrest as they sang concluded song ‘O Holy Night’.
