Weight Room at PWC Hospital Wellness Center
Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Prince William Fitness and Wellness Center. Current members and potential members toured the facility which included refreshments and door prices in addition to free blood pressure checks, body fat, glucose screenings, and an assortment of other health analysis offered by the wellness center.
Justin G. Byrd, Fitness Coordinator, stressed the importance healthy exercise particularly for patients recovering from surgery or post-rehabilitation. One unique feature of this wellness center according to Justin is that although the fitness center is a hospital oriented facility it not restricted to patients or members of the hospital, but rather the center is open to the general public. Membership with the fitness center includes an assessment of body composition, muscular strength, flexibility, cardio respiratory fitness, and cholesterol testing. Applicants less than 18 years of age must have parental and legal consent prior to joining to the program. The fitness center then designs a fitness program tailored to meet the individual needs and goals. In addition to the paid membership, members are entitled to group exercises such as multi-level yoga exercises, step-aerobics, hi-lo aerobics, as well personalized health program review. Patients recovering from heart, pulmonary, and diabetic surgery are entitled to a specialized assessment which includes glucose check before and after the rehabilitation exercise.
