The Prince William County Service Authority (SA) celebrated its 25th Anniversary.

The organization was founded in 1983 by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. Its sole mission is to provide quality drinking water to local residents.  Fast forward twenty five years later the SA is upgrading its H.L. Mooney Water Reclamation Facility located in Occoquan, Virginia. It has been a truly remarkable journey for the Prince William County Service Authority.

Dean E. Dickey

Dean Dickey, General Manager of SA

Today’s event included opening remarks by Dean E. Dickey, General Manager which included introduction of current and former members of the Board of Directors of the Service Authority such as Dunward E. Grubbs, Paul E. Ruecker, Joyce P. Eagles, Dr. K. Jack Kooyoomjian, Steve Danziger, Janice Carr, William Becker, and Alexander Vanegas. In addition, former members of the SA were introduced including Michael Higgins and David Rutherford. Mr. Dickey highlighted how the SA started from a collective vision by providing quality service to the local residents of the community. He noted how the organization has evolved from 25,000 accounts to over 76,000 accounts today, from 700 miles to nearly 2,000 miles of water and sewer lines, and from manual reading of water meters to the use of sophisticated computerized equipment. Among the challenges facing SA according to Mr. Dickey is the need to increase competition of water resources and the effect of global warming on the local environment; adherence to the state and the federal environmental regulatory compliance; the need to upgrade the current infrastructure to meet today’s demand; the increased need and demand of the water supply as the county population continually grows; and the need to address and preserve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay. The SA estimates $300,000 million dollars will be required to upgrade the H.L. Mooney Reclamation Facility in Occoquan. In his closing remarks, Mr. Dickey noted that SA will meet the challenges ahead without trepidation and is eager to meet the challenges ahead confidently and optimistically. The SA looks forward to the next 25 years of quality service to the community.

 Janice Carr

Janice R. Carr, Member Neabsco District

Among the distinguished members of the audience was Janice Rossi Carr, an active member representing Dale City Neabsco District. She wants to let BristowEnews.com readers know how the organization has evolved and positively addressed the growing needs of community. In concert with today’s event, Janice R. Carr noted that most of the art work displayed at the SA lobby was created by students within the community. For the past six years, the SA has been sponsoring the Art Contest and winners were awarded cash prizes in addition to the student’s art work being displayed and framed for public viewing. According to Janice, the 25th Anniversary is truly a memorable event because employees of the organization are truly dedicated employees in providing outstanding service to the community. Steve Danziger, Executive Director of the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority explained his organization is also celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Among the service his organization provides are waste water reclamation service for the Western Prince William County, Western Fairfax County, and the city of Manassas and the Manassas Park. For residents of the Bristow community, the sewer water goes to the SA which in turn is diverted to the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority for water reclamation. Water reclamation as Mr. Danzinger noted is near drinking water quality and often discharged back to the community.
