 Sister Mary Jordan With Family

Sister Mary Jordan Hoover, O.P., Principal of Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School met with prospective students at All Saints Catholic School in Manassas, Virginia on Saturday, January 12th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m..  Sister Mary Jordan Hoover gave a presentation and spoke to families about the school which is scheduled to open in August of 2008.  Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School is currently under construction and is located east of Dumfries on a forty acre campus.

Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School curriculum is greatly influenced by their namesake, Pope John Paul II.  Pope John Paul, who lived through Nazism and Communism and believed that today’s youth are “the light of the world and salt of the earth, who can bring God’s healing beauty and love amid the countless injustices and sufferings.”  In addition to their college preparatory courses the school will focus on “Bioethics” which is a science that deals with the morality of life sciences as it applies to the dignity of the human person and the issues currently facing society in the areas of health care from conception to natural death.

The Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia currently have 32 schools and are dedicated to “bring Christ to the world in the spirit of truth and love.”  The school shield is divided into three sections which represent the school’s charism:  The star represents St. Dominic, the founder of the Dominican Order of Preachers.  The intertwined “A” and “M” stand for “Hail Mary” and Pope John Paul’s great love for Mary, the mother of Jesus.  The hound with a torch in its mouth also represents St. Dominic.  His mother had a dream that she would give birth to a dog that would carry a torch in his mouth to set the world ablaze with the Gospel.[1] For more information about the school see:  www.jpthegreat.org
