BEACON for Adult Literacy offers a quarterly Life Skills Series focusing on a number of topics each year. On Wednesday, July 16 BEACON for Adult Literacy will host a Disaster Preparedness Workshop at the Georgetown South Community Center, 9444 Taney Road, Manassas, VA 20110 from 11:45 am – 1:00 pm. Presented by Bonnie Nahas of the Voluntary Action Center of Greater Prince William County, attendees will participate in an interactive program focusing on the creation of a household plan for safety in the case of fire, evacuation and extreme weather. Guests will learn what information to include in your plan, how to stock a disaster supply kit, pet care considerations and resources for further reference. The workshop is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available. BEACON for Adult Literacy is a tuition-free, volunteer-based adult literacy program that began in September 1992. The BEACON program addresses adult literacy with core curriculums in high school equivalency, English as a second language and adult basic education. Our sites are located throughout western Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.
