Centerville, VA – In a statement released today, State Senator and candidate for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli announced having raised over $125,000 for the campaign finance reporting period ending June 30, 2008. His campaign currently has over $110,000 on-hand.
“Conservatives are responding to my record of defending Life, protecting our communities, preserving Constitutional rights, and fighting to reign in the size of government. I’m very excited about the early enthusiasm we’ve been generating across the Commonwealth,” said Cuccinelli.
In his re-election to the State Senate last year, Ken Cuccinelli raised over $1.2 million.
“Raising money through a re-energized grassroots conservative movement will give our campaign the best chance to win next year,” said Cuccinelli. “By going straight to the volunteers, activists, and local party units, we can re-engage Republicans who stayed home on Election Day in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and we can recruit new voters and volunteers to our cause.”
In addition to a respectable start on fundraising, Senator Cuccinelli noted that “I’ve been particularly grateful for the early support that I’m getting from so many of the grassroots conservatives and Republicans that I’ve talked to.” To date, over 30 Republican unit chairmen, 17 members of the House of Delegates, and 6 fellow Senators have endorsed his campaign, and hundreds of supporters have already committed to attend the 2009 Republican convention. “Getting those convention delegates is what it’s all about right now,” said Cuccinelli – a famously focused grassroots campaigner.
Senator Ken Cuccinelli has been a member of the Virginia Senate since 2002, winning three straight elections in Fairfax County as a top target of Democrats. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Virginia, followed by his Law degree and Master’s degree from George Mason University. Sen. Cuccinelli serves on the Committees for Courts of Justice, Transportation, Local Government, and Rehabilitation and Social Services. Ken and Teiro Cuccinelli have been married since 1991, and have five daughters and one son. The Cuccinellis home school four of their daughters.
