Weight-Loss Author to Speak at Farmers' Market

Nokesville, VA--June 22, 2008-- Author Richard Morris, who lost an astounding 150 lbs. without doctors, surgery, drugs, or fad diets will speak on Saturday, July 26th at the Nokesville Farmers' Market located at Rt. 28 and Fitwater Drive in Nokesville.

Morris had tried every diet in the books: low-fat, meat only, vegetables only, the cabbage soup diet, skipping meals, diet beverages—he tried them all.  None of them worked, and he despaired of trimming any of his four hundred plus pounds or recovering from his mounting health problems.  Then he accidentally found out that the solution involved a return to real, traditional food, including such demonized foods as butter, eggs and whole milk!

In college, Richard was slim and trim. When the one-time, long distance runner and weight lifter entered the workforce, his new desk job and extensive travel led to extreme weight gain.  Junk foods, eating on the run, dining out, soda addiction—all played a role in his widening girth.  Diets only seemed to make things worse, and his health was beginning to deteriorate.  One day, by chance, he had nothing to eat but some chicken and vegetables he’d bought at a New York City lunch buffet.  He felt better than he had in some time.  So the next day, he did it again.

He then realized that what he wasn’t eating were processed foods--no soda, no cereal, no chips--just meat and veggies, with butter on the veggies.  That is when he had an awakening!  The culprits were the modern processed foods he lived on.  He remembered the farm fresh food on the family table during his youth, and decided to partake of the natural foods enjoyed by his parents and grandparents.

He then embarked on a personal weight loss program based on real whole foods—and mostly local foods.  He began to shop the perimeter of the grocery store, buying only fresh produce and meats.  He spent more of his food dollar at local farmers markets and often purchased directly from nearby farms.  Most significantly, he and his wife Mary began to prepare and cook everything they ate--even to the extent of packing their food and taking it to work or on business trips. Richard took total personal responsibility for everything he consumed. As the weight dropped off, he was able to add regular exercise to the program.

Now, one hundred fifty pounds lighter, he tells his fascinating story in his book, A Life Unburdened, newly released by NewTrends Publishing.  Richard is a popular speaker at health conferences and farm groups.  He has his own website, www.breadandmoney.com, where he blogs about food politics and health topics.  Additional information about his visit to the Nokesville Farmers' Market can be had by calling Pablo Teodoro at (703) 794-7057.
