Richmond, July 24, 2008 - “Tonight, Christopher Scott Emmett was executed by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the murder of John Fenton Langley. On the night of April 26, 2001 Emmett murdered his co-worker as he lay sleeping in his hotel room in Danville, taking John Fenton Langley’s life in order to steal his wallet to buy crack cocaine. It was a senseless crime that took a father away from his children. Mr. Langley’s friends and family will forever mourn his loss.”
“The jury verdict of guilt and sentence of death in this case have been exhaustively reviewed and upheld by the trial court, U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, Virginia Supreme Court, U.S. Supreme Court and the governor has declined to intervene. The just sentence of death delivered by the jury has now been carried out. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Mr. Langley’s friends and family.”
