Prince William County Chairman Corey A. Stewart (R- At Large) is disappointed United Nations Special Rapporteur Dr. Bustamante has cancelled his scheduled visit with the chairman. “I was looking forward to having the discussion”, Chairman Stewart said. “We are very pleased that the county’s Rule of Law Resolution is having such a positive impact on the quality of life for county citizens. It would be good for the Rapporteur to understand that.”
Given Dr. Bustamante’s much publicized plans to visit the county, his last minute cancellation also invites speculation as to the reason for his backing out from the meeting. “Who knows”, Stewart offered, “perhaps something personal came up. If he changes his mind, I’ll find a spot for him on the calendar. It’s important that the actual facts get out as to the details of the county’s policy. If Dr. Bustamante can help in that effort, we welcome his involvement.”
During Chairman Stewart’s recent appearance on the CNN’s Lou Dobbs program, he questioned, given the real abuses being perpetrated by tyrannical regimes across the globe, whether the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants didn’t have better things to do with its resources than to focus on Prince William County’s handling of illegal aliens present within its jurisdiction.
“The United Nations has consistently turned a blind eye to regimes across the world that are not only engaged in human rights abuses but in genocide and actual killing of migrants and immigrants all across the globe”, Stewart explained. “But here, what they’ve decided to do is spend some of their time beating up on the United States and localities here, Prince William County in particular, for simply enforcing the law. And, frankly, I find that repugnant”. The U. N. is “hoping, of course, that other localities don’t follow suit and use Prince William County as an example because it has been successful”, the Chairman asserted.
Stewart also questioned what value Dr. Bustamante brings to the table given that he reports to the discredited U.N. Commission on Human Rights whose membership includes such abusive regimes as China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia.
Prince William County’s Rule of Law Resolution has attracted interest nationally and beyond the nation’s borders. The chairman’s office receives ongoing inquiry from localities across the United States interested in using the County’s policy as a model they can duplicate.

Open Letter from Jorge A. Bustamante
<English Version>
Dear Mr. Juárez,
I write to you with much regret for having to postpone the trip to Washington that I had promised you. Something unexpected of extreme gravity came up, totally outside of my control that has made it impossible for me to take the red eye flight that was already reserved from San Diego to Washington. I am aware that this will cause inconveniences for which I beg you accept my sincere apologies.
Sincerely,
Jorge A. Bustamante, Ph.D.
Special Rapporteur of the UN for the Human Rights of the migrants
