Nokesville Farmer’s Market Grand Opening Day

 Nokesville Farmer's Market

Nokesville, VA ~ June 7, 2008

There were fresh farm eggs; there were live chickens for sale, exotic meat cuts such as Emu Steak, and variety of fresh produce from lettuce to tomatoes. There was live music provided by Leroy Bates, a local and aspiring musician.

Strawberry Jam

According to Pablo Teodoro, Marketing Manager of Nokesville Farmers' Market it took ten (10) months in the planning and has attracted twenty vendors selling potted plants, assortment of local cheeses, fresh cut flowers, honey, fresh home made  jams and jellies, Alpaca,  and Llama by-products. The event has attracted both locals and curious seekers on this hot muggy and sticky day typically of early Virginian summers. The temperature combined with the heat index felt like 103 degrees in the shade.

Pablo Teodoro would like to express his appreciation for the following people who made this event possible:

·         Jimmy Gadban for providing the facility and space for today’s event

·         Friends of Nokesville for sponsoring and funding the event

·         Tom Basham, President of the Nokesville Business Association for the Public Address (PA) System

·         Chuck  & Charles Thomas Boyd for the colorful banners and signage

·         Amy Moore for the beautiful fliers

·         Gail Williams, Bull Run Observer

·         Dona Swanson for the behind the scenes and envisioning the Nokesville Farmer’s Market

·         Countless volunteers who made this event possible

Unlike the traditional farmer’s market often seen across the county, the Nokesville Farmer Market has unique qualities appealing to local farmers and local residents alike such as the Nokesville Farmers Market is a “Producer” only market which means it  grows, raises, and makes local products for the community. The Nokesville Farmer’s Market is a seasonable market which means they produce and sell what is currently in season and indigenous to the local region. For instance, local corn variety such as Silver Queen will not probably be sold until late July or early August.  In addition, the local farmers are encouraged to grow and raise their vegetables without use of pesticides and the use of hormones to live-stocks.  It is the belief of the organization, once the grower relies on outside vendors, the methods for growing, harvesting, and raising vegetables and live-stocks remain questionable.
