NORTHERN VIRGINIA—Virginia Delegate David Poisson presented the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative with a copy of House Joint Resolution No. 399 commending and congratulating NOVEC for 25 years of service to Northern Virginia.  Poisson presented the resolution passed by the General Assembly to NOVEC President/CEO Stan Feuerberg at the Cooperative’s headquarters in Manassas, Va., on June 12, 2008.

Poisson, who represents District 32 in Loudoun County, said, “Northern Virginia has seen unprecedented growth in the last 25 years.  Much of that growth has been in NOVEC territory.  The General Assembly recognizes how NOVEC has met increased energy demands with remarkable reliability.”

The resolution states in part:

WHEREAS, townspeople and farmers in Manassas and parts of Fairfax, Fauquier, Stafford, Loudoun and Prince William met and formed the Prince William Electric Cooperative in 1941; and…

WHEREAS, the oil embargo of 1973 posed many financial challenges to Tri-County Electric Cooperative and Prince William Electric Cooperative, resulting in the consolidation of the two cooperatives to become the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, which began distributing power to approximately 38,000 customers on January 1, 1983; and

WHEREAS, today NOVEC is rated one of the top electric utilities in the United States and for eight consecutive years has been the most reliable electric utility in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, keeping power flowing 99.98 percent of the time…
