Local Home School Families React to California Ruling

Bristow, Gainesville and Nokesville, Virginia have a large number of families that home school their children.  According to the Home School Legal Defense Association, on February 28^th, when the State of California Court of Appeal effectively ruled that “homeschooling is illegal in California unless conducted by a credentialed teacher and that parents have no constitutional right to home school,” this triggered a reaction that led to a petition to “depublish” the opinion, so that it cannot be “cited as a precedent by other courts in California.”[1]  For more information about this case see the Home School Legal Defense Association web site: https://www2.hslda.org/Registrations/DepublishingCaliforniaCourtDecision

Many area home school families have been watching this case and are encouraging families to sign a petition organized by the Parental Right Organization to create a Constitutional Amendment to protect parent’s rights in raising their children.  For more information see: http://www.parentalrights.org
