Manassas, VA—Uno’s Chicago Grill in Gainesville was the venue for the first mixer held by the Young Professionals of Northern Virginia last Thursday evening. Young Professionals of Northern Virginia (YPNOVA) is a new group recently organized by the Prince William County–Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce in order to attract and retain future leadership–those who are currently under the age of forty-one.
The group was organized to help young business people create relationships that foster personal development and a personal commitment to the community. Research shows that when young professionals feel themselves to be a part a community with the power and opportunity to impact it, they are twice as likely to remain in that position. In fact, three out of four young professionals under the age of 28 place more importance on the quality of their community than the availability of jobs.
The ultimate goal of YPNOVA is to retain the community’s future leaders by helping them develop networking skills and a sense of investment in the community in the company of their peers.
However, YPNOVA is not just a social organization. Along with creating professional networking opportunities, its mission includes building awareness of governmental processes and issues, organizing volunteer opportunities and contributing to and enriching the community.
Future YPNOVA events include tubing on the Shenandoah River on Sat., May 31st.
YPNOVA meets over lunch on the second Wed. of every month. All Chamber members and their staff under the age of 41 are invited to join. For more information about YPNOVA, contact Erin Randall by calling 703-368-6600, ext. 21, or emailing erandall@pwcgmcc.org. Or visit the YPNOVA website at www.ypnova.org.
