NOVEC - Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative - currently has 4,538 customers without electric service - the majority of these customers are located in Prince William County - outages are also being worked in other counties as noted in the outage summary below. NOVEC began Sunday with more than 11,000 out of service and were able to reduce it to the current number.
NOVEC employees have been working around the clock to restore service since the first outages occurred on Friday, February 5 and will be on the job until all service is restored. In many areas multiple downed trees from the heavy wet snow and high winds still need to be removed before service can be restored. Restoration efforts continue to be hampered by roads that are inaccessible.
NOVEC is working with VDOT to gain access to these locations. The remaining outages are all small - lots of work required to restore only a small number of customers. NOVEC is in full force and will be working through the day and work will continue through the night.
NOVEC anticipates all services restored by Tuesday - The progress report will tell us whether that is a realistic target.
NOVEC caution customers to treat every downed power line as live and do not try to remove any line they may see on the ground.
