Bristow, VA.
On May 6, 2008, the Prince William County Board of County Supervisor (BOCS) voted unanimously to the development and construction of commercial properties across from the Historic Bristoe Battle Station along the scenic byways for commercial business ventures. In addition, the re-zoning of a small parcel of land between Devlin and Linton Hall for a drive through Pharmacy, a daycare, and a small office complex has been approved.
According to BOCS, the approval meant additional revenue stream for the county. We all agree the local economy has slowed down in the past year and a lot of home owners particularly in Prince William County side have been hit hard by housing foreclosures. So my question to local residents is this construction really going to stimulate our local economy? The fact is our local economy hasn't snapped out of this economic doldrums leads me to believe we may be in this economic stalemate for a little longer than what we all have anticipated.
Bristow has seen a lot of changes in recent years. From a handful of developments such as Braemar I, Saybrooke Development, and shopping center such as the Giant Food Store off Linton Hall Road and Route 29. Bristow has grown tremendously as the result of attractive and affordable housing prices, convenience to major thoroughfares, taxes, and the quality of life. Over the years, Bristow has attracted a lot of young families and mature adults; consequently retirement communities like Dunbarton and Heritage Hunt have been built around these growing communities.

Do we really need another shopping center off Linton Hall and Devlin Road? Does traffic ring a bell to local commuters? Let’s face it one unique aspect of living in this side of Prince William County is the feeling of vastness and the open space. Regardless of what they say, Bristow Commons is another strip mall and potentially can be an eye sore to local residents, devalue homes because of the proximity to the future stores, and may adversely impact the surrounding neighborhood of Sheffield Manor, Bridle Wood Manor, Linton Hall Crest, and the Victory Lakes communities.
